Informed by a needs assessment study undertaken in the region and backed by a systematic curriculum, KcK has established an Education Centre that will offer short tailor made courses in the area of constitutionalism, good governance, human rights and on the EAC. The courses will target different stakeholders in the region. The courses will be informed by KcK’s rich research experience and work in the area of constitutionalism, good governance and democratic development in the region including the EAC. The Centre aims to contribute to improved access to well researched and up-to-date information by East Africans on constitutionalism, good governance and democratic development, which will result in increased appreciation by different stakeholders of key governance, constitutional and human rights principles and developments in the region. The award for the courses will initially be a certificate, and progressively, diplomas and degrees will be awarded.
The courses will focus on the dynamics of EAC integration and will explore the, constitutionalism, mandates, and roles of the different organs and institutions of the Community. It will introduce participants to the various procedures the different organs and institutions of the EAC use in effecting their mandates; as well as engage questions on the role of the EAC in promoting constitutionalism, democracy and rule of law.
To create awareness among different stakeholders on the East African integration process and to develop their capacity to understand, engage in and contribute to the integration process. The course targets parliamentarians at regional and national level, members of the judiciary, civil society, private sector and other interested individuals. KcK uses experts in the various fields from the region as course facilitators.
The mode of delivery will be participatory with adult teaching and learning. Certificates will be awarded at the end of the course.
