The Board is comprised of seven (7) members, one (1) each from Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania Mainland, Tanzania Zanzibar and two (2) from Uganda.
Ms. Patricia Ntahorubuze (Burundi)
Ms. Patricia Ntahorubuze is the Rule of Law Project Manager and Gender Specialist at United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and previously a Coordinator of the Burundi Women Lawyers Association and a Magistrate in Bujumbura, Burundi. She has a Degree in Law and a Degree in Gender. She is specialized in project management and evaluation especially from a gender perspective.
Mr. Bobby Nkangi (Kenya)
Independent legal consultant in governance, child rights and protection and human rights; and media commentator and analyst on legal, constitutional and political issues. He holds a Bachelor of Laws. He has engaged in numerous consultancies involving training, materials development, and facilitation in Kenya, the region, Europe and the United States. He was a member of the Committee of Experts that developed Kenya’s 2010 constitution; and previously worked with the Children’s Legal Action Network of Kenya and volunteered with the Mathare Junior Centre. His good work in human rights has earned him various awards among them the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS), and Shujaa Wetu (Our Hero Award) and a nominee of the Pwani Human Rights Award. He has served on various Boards.
Mr. Christian Garuka (Rwanda)
Legal practitioner and human rights consultant working in Kigali. He holds a Master’s Degree in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa and a Bachelor of Laws. He has engaged in various research, training and development of training programmes as part of his consultancy work in Rwanda, Madagascar, Kenya, and Tanzania.
He has worked as Discipline Officer with the United Nations Stabilization Mission (MINUSCA) in the Central African Republic; a Human Rights and Gender Advisor at the United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS) in Nigeria; and legal researcher at the International Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR).
Mr. Harold Sungusia (Tanzania Mainland)
Country Director and Lead Consultant at Sung Consultants, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania; part time lecturer at the School of Law at the University of Dar es Salaam and Associate Trainer at the MS TCDC, Arusha, Tanzania.
He is a holder of a Masters of Law in international Law and Law of International Organizations; a Post Graduate Diploma in Law; a Bachelor of Laws and has attended various short term courses. He is an experienced researcher, trainer and public interest lawyer and boasts a two decade long working experience as a State Attorney and strong advocate of human rights from years of working as Director of Advocacy and Reforms at the Legal and Human Rights Centre (LHRC), a lead human rights civil society organisation in Tanzania. He has engaged in consultancies in various countries in Africa and other parts of the world. He is a member of a number of organisations and professional institution.
Dr. Mzuri Issa Ali (Tanzania Zanzibar)
Director of the Tanzania Media Women Association, Zanzibar. Formerly, acting Director in the Directorate of Communications in the President’s office; Assistant Press Secretary to the President; and a sub-editor and reporter at Nuru newspaper.
She holds a Doctorate in Social Sciences; a Masters of Arts in Political Science and International Relations; and a Degree in Mass Communication. She has vast experience in the field of communication and is an ardent advocate of women’s rights.
Rev.Fr.Dr. Andrew K. Kasirye (Uganda)
Judicial vicar, Vice Chancellor, Curia Moderator, Kampala Archdiocese. Previously taught in Uru Minor Seminary Moshi, Tanzania and at the Apostles of Jesus Noviciate Tengeru, Arusha- Tanzania; was Pastor at La Rotta Parish Pontedera Pisa Italy; and Advocate Ecclesiastical Tribunal, Florence Italy.
He holds a Doctorate in Canon ( Church State) law, Urabiana University Rome, Italy; various diplomas in rural sociology and development, and laws on religious canonization from Rome Italy; and certificates in different fields of communication.
Dr. Sarah Evelyn N. Ssali (Uganda)
Dean and Senior lecturer, School of Women and Gender Studies, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Makerere University and part time lecturer, Clinical Epidemiology Unit, Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Law, Makerere University.
She holds a Doctorate in International Health and Development studies, a Master of Arts Degree in Women and Gender Studies; a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences, a Post Graduate in Democracy and Diversity, and various certificates including in HIV/AIDS training.
She is also a researcher and trainer. She has written widely and engaged in consultancies on various issues relating to gender and health, sexuality and culture. She has worked in Uganda, Rwanda and Ghana and has been an external examiner in various universities on the continent. She is a member of various professional bodies.
